THE BEAN SCENE
News of the Green
Green beans may literally be one of the
smallest segments of coffee roasting, but their tiny size belies
their big importance. As any roaster knows, the finished product
is only as good as the ingredients that go into it.
While most roasters have their favorite
green beans—the ones they choose year after year for that
perfect roast profile—there are always new and unusual green
beans making their way into roasteries around the country. And while
it would be nice to have time to sample every single one, that’s
simply not a reality in the life of most roasters.
Which is why Roast has done the groundwork
for you. In each issue, Roast’s column, “The Bean Scene,” will
give you information about some of the exciting new beans that are
on their way from around the world. For each green bean, we’ll
include a variety of the important features, including origin,
flavor, availability and contact information for samples.
The Bean Scene’s goal is to highlight
some truly unique beans and make your sourcing job a little easier.
